Walking With Jesus (Repentance)

DAY 6 OF 7

The seen and unseen sins

Sin is a violation of God's law. In general, we can see that there are visible and invisible sins. Some sins are visible and others know that we do those sins; but other sins are difficult to see, those that only God and ourselves can know about.

The parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32) explains this well. The youngest son in the parable committed a visible sin. He was greedy, and he indulged in his lust. He squandered his wealth for the pleasures of the flesh. On the other hand, the eldest son’s sins were not visible. He was easily offended, unloving, unforgiving, and envious.

People whose sins are visible, such as thieves, prostitutes and liars, can be immediately judged by other people. On the other hand, people with invisible sins such as anger, pride, etc, might be people with high positions that people often respect. Sometimes, we even try to understand why those people commit that sin, assuming that none is perfect in this world.

Pay attention to the invisible sides of our personality: our temperament, character, and desires. There might be sins there!

Reflection:

1. Which ones do you pay more attention to? The visible or invisible sins? Why is that?

2. How do you notice the invisible sins in your life? Do you deal with it or let it go?

Practice: God looks at our hearts; we don't have anything to hide. If you have to fix it, do it with God right away!
