Walking With Jesus (Growth)

DAY 4 OF 7

The strong root

Jeremiah 17:7-8

The largest tree in the world is in the Giant Forest, America. This Giant Sequoia tree was named General Sherman. This tree, estimated to be 2,200 years old, has a body volume of 1487 cubic meters and a height of 83.8 meters in 2002. Its branches are lush and green, providing shade and extraordinary beauty. The tree is round, straight, and tall. Over the years this tree receives strong winds, heavy rain, snow, and both hot and cold weather. It seems that the roots of this tree are getting quite deeply embedded and strong.

This giant tree represents a parallel in our Christian life. We will all eventually face illness, the death of loved ones, breakups, and other trials. How strong are we when we face adversity? Are we mature enough in the faith and rooted deep enough in God's Word to be able to weather all of life's storms, changes, and cold weather? Jeremiah assures us that God can take care of us, no matter what we are facing, as long as we trust and depend on Him.

What we need to pay attention to is that the blessings of people who depend on and believe in God are not merely physical or material things. God cares more about our faith or our spirituality. He wants us to continually bear spiritual fruit that will glorify Him.

Therefore, no matter what you are currently facing, believe in God and keep depending on Him. There is no problem that a believer cannot face. Focus on our spiritual growth so that we can be strong to face anything.

Reflection:

1. If you are like a tree, what kind of tree are you?

2. Are you currently strong enough to face various difficulties and challenges? What will happen if you are strong enough and if you are not strong enough?

Practice: Do today a spiritual practice that will make you spiritually strong. Do it continuously day after day. Look at the results!
