DAY 3 OF 8

Running Towards your Giants

“David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine” (1 Samuel 17:84).

The Israelite army was “dismayed and terrified.” For forty days, Goliath instilled fear into the Israelites, taunting them. 1 Samuel 17:11 says, “On hearing the Philistine’s words, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified.” What was David’s response to Goliath? The Bible says, “David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine.” David did in one day what the Israelites failed to do in forty! God did not call David to stay in the comfort of fear and holding back because the giant was too big or his words too terrifying. God called David to a greater purpose.

The enemy likes to use the giants we face and have faced in the past to taunt us. He wants us to run away from what God wants us to run towards. What did David use to defeat Goliath? He used stones and a slingshot, things he had used in the past. God uses the little we have in our hands for His greater glory. David ran to Goliath not with his strength but with the strength of his Heavenly Father. Run towards what you want to run away from, knowing God can use one single thing, one small stone, to lay down all the giants before you. Zechariah 4:6 says, “‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit.’ says the Lord Almighty.”

What are the giants you face today? What are the things in your life standing in front of you? It could be a situation, anxiety, fear, loss of control, career, friendships. Sometimes, fear and circumstances can make us paralyzed, like the Israelite army. David “ran quickly toward the battle,” not away. He knew God was bigger than any giant standing in front of him. Now, running toward our giants is scary and not easily done.

Whatever lies in your past, whatever battle you are going through, whoever you tell yourself you are, Jesus died so you can be made new. Your worth is not in who told you who you are or what the world labels you as. Your worth is found in our Savior.
