How to Fight Fair and Fearless in Your Marriage by Treal Ravenel

DAY 6 OF 7

You’re ok!

I’m speaking in future tense because I am calling those things that may not be present as though they are because they are yours and you have them now (Romans 4:17).

You are safe and well even if you don’t feel the manifestation of that yet. If nothing else, I hope over these past few days, you know how much God loves you, how much he cares for you, and that he has made it his business to see about you.

Just when you said to yourself, “this isn’t fair,” God reminded you to fight fair and for, and gave you a strategy to do so. When you thought that fear would paralyze your life and derail your future, God reminded you to pursue him fearlessly. When you felt that negative and ungodly thoughts were going to swallow you up and keep you in bondage, God reminded you to adopt the mind of Christ. When you were confident that you were the poster child for suffering and God was punishing you, he said not so. When you told yourself that you were in this alone, he showed you differently. God wanted you to know that there is a community of people waiting to embrace, support, and love you. And just when you thought that the bottom fell out beneath you, God said, take a stand and don’t move, for your foundation is solid.

That is just like God. He constantly sends us small messages of hope, faith, and love in the most unorthodox ways. It is just like him to whisper, amid all of the noise around you, and to remind you that you are ok!

I think about Ruth when her husband died and she chose to go with her former mother-in-law, Naomi, versus going back to her home country. Returning home would have been customary during her time. I can imagine all the thoughts and emotions she was experiencing, yet she took a stand and believed that even though things did not look or feel ok right then, she was ok (Ruth 1:16-17).

Things are not always what they seem, and that’s on either side of it, but you have a choice. You can choose which side of it you will stand, and you can choose to be ok even through uncertainty.

Devotional Reflection: What does being ok look like to you? How can you implement being ok in the middle of your fight?
