DAY 4 OF 7

DAY 4: STRATEGY - PART 2

The who, what, and where related to investing and committing resources to your strategy are vital. Renegade cowboys who isolate themselves become poor stewards for the mission and ultimately fail to optimize the strategy. People need people who are gifted differently and who specialize within a space. It is also essential to assess areas of need and direct our assets to those that best align with the initial vision. For instance, one of your visions for the new year might be to become a more involved, intentional parent. If your child is challenged at math, your strategy for addressing that need will need to incorporate the who, what, and where.

First, you would begin by communicating with the teacher at the school (who). Next, you would probably want to consider private instruction after school by hiring a tutor (what). If your child struggles with keeping their attention in class, you would consider the tutoring venue off-campus, in a neutral location (where). Sure, you could make an effort to help with math at home, on your own, but is that best utilizing available resources to accomplish the strategy of improving in math class? God presents us with people and opportunities that facilitate our strategizing process. It is our choice to capitalize on those opportunities.

There are certainly more aspects beyond the who, what, and where for attacking and implementing a strategy, but these are easy steps that yield results to make it simple. Your strategy design should simply formulate tactics that efficiently execute the vision and create the roadmap for your actions. Action is the final piece of the puzzle and, I would argue, the most important. Many of us have created a great vision and devised a great strategy on paper but failed to execute with action. Actions are where the rubber meets the road, and our roadmap becomes our footprint.

CHALLENGE STEP:

Identify the who, what, and where components of your strategy.
