Daily Strength for Couples

DAY 5 OF 7

Control Factor

The desire to control has been an issue since the beginning of time. Wars have been fought; divorces have occurred; deaths have resulted from people vying for control. Marriage was created by God, not as a competition, but as a partnership. The battle to control has no place in marriage other than each partner developing self-control. Decisions, satisfactory to both, should be made by discussion, mutual agreement, and prayer.

God is our ultimate authority, and He is in charge. A good marriage operates from the framework where neither is struggling to control. Both are working together to accomplish the responsibilities set before them in an amicable fashion. The marriage benefits as the work is divided and decisions mutually made, always acknowledging God as the director. Be patient with each other and enjoy peace.

Are there issues in your marriage where you struggle for control? How best could you rectify those?
