SoulSister: Galatians 2:20 [A Study On Identity]

DAY 5 OF 8

SURRENDER YOUR OLD SELF

Before Christ, the power of sin controlled us. Before Christ, we craved our desires, gave into our liking, and our sinful nature was what we worshiped. Our sinful nature had control of us, thanks to the fall of Adam. But now that we have accepted Christ, our sinful nature no longer has that power. In Christ, no longer does our sinful nature have control, but Christ lives in us, and He is in control. Everything we do, everything that is done, every move that we make, every thought that we have [in the flesh], we have to surrender to Christ. Yes, I said "have to" because our sinful nature is dying but it’s not dead yet. We have to surrender it to the one who is in control. We must make a choice to surrender.

Surrender is so important because in order for us to believe in this identity that we have, we have to have faith. We have to believe in what God said. It is so important because if we don't, the soul/life that Galatians 2:20 talks about needs to be sanctified. Sanctified means "made holy."

Our faith in Christ gives our identity the promise of being “kept.” We can have trust that everything God desires us to be will be made complete. Not by our works, but by the works of Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. That is something to rejoice in, rest in, and be confident in. Surrendering is having faith in what Christ has done. Surrender the thought that you have to do it by [your] works. Works won’t work. Faith does, and faith is what it takes to please God.

Want to see change? Have faith in what Christ has done and know that it’s finished. Now watch the Holy Spirit do the work and fulfill the scripture that faith without works is dead. He will produce the fruit. All you have to do is believe and surrender, and you will walk in obedience.
