Inside Christmas: Life With Emmanuel, God With Us

DAY 2 OF 7

Don’t Wait!

“I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person and they with me.” Rev. 3:20

Revelation 3:20 speaks to His church, His very own people. We think of this as a salvation scripture that could only be for those who don’t know Him, who would leave Him waiting outside of their lives.

As sad as it is to think about Jesus standing, knocking, and waiting on us, the amazing and beautiful thing is, He’s consistently, persistently, and relentlessly doing it!

He is ever pursuing us, not barging in, kicking the door down, demanding our attention (even though we sometimes wish He would), but He is no brute! He is the lover of our soul, our mind, will, and emotions. So isn’t this the place we need to give Him space? It’s in our thinking that affects our feelings, and our feelings that influence our will, and our will that ultimately changes our hearts toward or away from God.

This verse describes the relationship between God and His church as distracted, lukewarm, dependent on their provision, and unintentional.

Jesus speaks to us who have become so distracted just doing life that we have locked Him out of ours.

I hear Him saying, “Hello? Are you free? Let’s catch up. Do you want to grab coffee or lunch? I miss you.”

Don’t rush through today. Take a minute right now and see yourself opening the door to the one that loves you more than life itself.  What is the expression on His face? The wait does not exasperate him! He’s overjoyed. He is wearing a big smile, waiting with a big hug and a grateful heart to spend time with you!

Pray-

Thank you, Jesus, for relentlessly loving and perusing me! Please help me become more aware of your Spirit living on the inside. Forgive me for not intentionally engaging you in my thinking, feelings, and decisions. From good morning to “good night” and all the day in between, I want to hear what you have to say about it. Thank you for being Emmanuel, God with us.

Read-

Ephesians 3:16-20 amp

May He grant you out of the riches of His glory, to be strengthened and spiritually energized with power through His Spirit in your inner self, [indwelling your innermost being and personality], so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through your faith. And may you, having been [deeply] rooted and [securely] grounded in love, be fully capable of comprehending with all the saints (God’s people) the width and length and height and depth of His love [fully experiencing that amazing, endless love]; and [that you may come] to know [practically, through personal experience] the love of Christ which far surpasses [mere] knowledge [without experience], that you may be filled up [throughout your being] to all the fullness of God [so that you may have the richest experience of God’s presence in your lives, completely filled and flooded with God Himself]. Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us.
