Finding Comfort

DAY 6 OF 6

Power Transfer

Isaiah 40:27-31

"Why do you complain, Jacob? Why do you say, Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God”? Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom."

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

As we said at the beginning of this reading plan, in the midst of your suffering and troubles it is so easy to feel like God has forgotten you. That He’s nowhere to be found. That He is distant and uninterested. As you cry out to God, it can feel like He is silent, unresponsive, far removed.

In these final verses of this passage, God wants you to know that nothing could be further from the truth.

First, Isaiah points back to all the previous verses of this chapter that reflect the truth that God is the sovereign power of the universe. He is THE creator. THE everlasting God. And as such, He can never grow tired or weary like you and I do. He doesn’t get exhausted by any circumstance or situation, including yours.

In addition, His understanding of your situation is something you can’t even begin to fathom. It’s why He declares in Isaiah 55:8:

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

That’s why He knows precisely what you need in the moment. He knows exactly what you need to strengthen you in your weariness and weakness. HIS strength. The strength of the all-powerful creator of the universe.

The key to unleashing it? Trusting Him.

  • Trusting that He indeed knows exactly your pain and struggle.
  • Trusting that He is far from disengaged, but actively knowledgeable and understanding of what you really need in the moment.
  • Trusting that as the Sovereign of the universe He loves you with an everlasting love that can never change and cares intimately and intensely about you and will never let you go.

It’s critical to note here that God doesn’t promise to take away your struggle. He doesn’t promise to remove your hardship. But what He does promise is this:

As you trust Him, He will give you the supernatural power to face your challenges and struggles. You will soar beyond your circumstances through the power of His Spirit. You can walk forward and not faint.

And in that, you will find the comfort you so desperately want and need.

So here is the question and the ultimate takeaway from this reading plan:

Regardless of what you face, will you trust in Him? Will you trust the all-powerful God of the universe with your situation and wait on and hope in Him? Will you allow Him to take you in His arms and bring you close to His heart and gently lead you through your suffering?

If you place your hope in Him today, you will never be disappointed. You will find renewed strength… a supernatural power that is unending. A power that will allow you to soar above your circumstances.

Bask in the comfort He is offering you by fully trusting Him now.
