Finding Your Sisterhood

DAY 5 OF 5

We crave a closeness with other people from the moment we are born. It’s in our DNA. When God said it wasn’t good for man to be alone, he meant it wasn’t good for man to be alone. He never promised it would be easy to find companions or that our attempts at relationship would always work out. He never promised that doing life with others would always be sunshine and hand-holding. He never said people wouldn’t break our hearts. But even in all our messes and mistakes, there’s still something inside of us created to help one another, carry one another, and connect with one another. So if you’re looking for somewhere to start, look for someone to serve.

Whether our purpose is teaching others, building businesses that provide for others, greeting others, encouraging others, hosting others, leading others, writing for others, or raising others—our purpose usually finds a place to land in someone else’s hand.

God created us, and he loved us enough to give us other people.

We don’t know what stage you’re in currently. Maybe you’re in a stage full of friends who are tried, true, and real. Maybe you’re in a stage with a few newer friends, and you’re hopeful these few friends will soon become your people. Or maybe you’re in a stage where you’re all alone.

Maybe you’ve lost a friend—something broke in your last friendship and now you feel a little broken too. Maybe insecurity has been getting the best of you or you’ve been held hostage by your own need to please people. Maybe you keep having the same thing happen over and over, and you know there must be another way.

Maybe you don’t know how to move on from the past. Maybe you don’t know how to give others grace or you don’t know how to give yourself grace. Maybe you’re hesitant to dive into a new relationship because the old ones left you feeling like crud—unsure, disappointed, and confused.

No matter where you are right now, no matter what your friend history looks like, no matter how many numbers are in your contact list, there is hope, and you aren’t alone.

You can do this.

Prayer

Lord, please help me develop healthy, fulfilling friendships that glorify you, and please help me to have courage when I am afraid to step out and make new friends. Amen.
