Why Read the Bible? A Guide for Preteens

DAY 1 OF 7

The Bible Is Essential

If something is essential, that means it’s extremely important and absolutely necessary. For example: food, clothing, and shelter? Essential. Gummy worms, video games, and brand-new sneakers? Eh, non-essential.

Did you know that Christians through the years have thought of the Bible as essential reading? They have. For thousands of years, followers of the one true God have learned what is right, true, beautiful, and good from God’s Word, the Bible.

Watch this video for more on what the Bible can teach us all.

Understanding what something is for helps you know how to use it. The Bible is meant to show us who God is. It’s meant to show us how to live. Yeah, that’s essential reading!

Pro tip: Is reading, um, not your favorite way to take in information? Well, the Bible App has thought of you! There are many versions of the Bible available with audio versions you can listen to instead of read! (If you see a sound icon by the translation, then there’s an audio version available.) If dyslexia makes reading difficult for you, try reading it using the OpenDyslexic font. First, make sure your app is up-to-date. Then, tap the Font button (Aa) in your Bible Reader (or in your Reader Settings). Next, select the font list, and select OpenDyslexic.

Ask yourself: What is one thing I’d like to learn about from the Bible?

Challenge yourself: Ask someone for help in exploring the topic you chose in the “Ask yourself” question above. Create a plan with them to learn about your chosen topic. Invite them to learn along with you!

Pray: God, thank You for giving us the Bible. It can teach us what is true. It can teach us what is right. It can teach us who You are. I’m so thankful I have the Bible to learn from. Help me to remember to learn from it each and every day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
