Enforcing You: Activating Your Kingdom Identity in ChristSample

“Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.” 

Colossians 2:8-10

Paul tells fellow believers in this passage that there are two choices in life; we can live according to the ways of the world, or we can live according to the ways of Christ. He warns that to live according to the world is to be cheated, which means to come up short.

Isn’t it true that many of us feel “shorted” of fulfillment in life? We too often go to bed night after night feeling unsatisfied, like we are missing out on more. More specifically, that we are missing out on BEING something more. We lack the “it is well” within our souls that we know we should have and are left frustrated yet exhausted trying to keep up with the demands of the world’s rules. Let’s be honest, the world offers promises that draw us into the wild chase for fulfillment but instead leave us feeling depleted and incomplete… not good enough. No matter what we do and no matter what we try, the world will never be satisfied with our efforts. There will always be more we need to do, or more we need to BE.

This verse is such a beautiful reminder that there is only one place we will find a sense of wholeness and satisfaction, and that is in Christ. He is where we find the relief from the moving target of what the world calls success and the pressures of our system. He is where we find our sense of completion; the “it is well” with my soul that we so desperately need. 

Jesus Himself reigns over the voices of the world. But He also reigns over the voices of your past and of your circumstances. He reigns over your emotions and the voices in your own head. All these other voices will take you captive and will enslave you, thus cheating you of your freedom and fulfillment. 

Maybe it is time that you break your agreement with the voices of the world and come into agreement with the voice of God. Let HIM be the head of all the principalities and powers you have subjected yourself to so that you can come into YOUR completeness in Him. 

Let’s declare it together. “God, I break my agreement with any voice other than YOUR voice. I declare that today, I will not be cheated of my fullness, but instead, I will be fat with Your love because I am submitting myself to Your voice. Tonight, when I lay in my bed, I will be satisfied.”
