12 Benefits to Reading the Bible

DAY 1 OF 3

Maintaining a Healthy Spirit

Every time you open your Bible to read, meditate or memorize, you’re opening your spirit to the things of God. Be sure to open it with expectancy. Expect God to speak to you. Expect revelation. Remember, this is God talking to you.

When you have troubles or questions, go first to the Bible, not to other people or information sources. God has the answers to everything you need in life.

When you read the Word on a regular basis, it keeps your spirit strong. Proverbs 18:14 says a strong spirit will sustain you through any trouble. Here are just some of the things that happen in your spirit when you read the Bible:

1. Psalm 119:165 – It protects your heart and keeps from being offended. Offense is sure to come to everyone (Luke 17:2) and it comes to separate you. More Word can make offense slide right off you. If you’re low on Word, you’re vulnerable.

2. Ephesians 6:11-16 – It’s your defense against every weapon of the enemy. God has not left us defenseless, and daily Bible reading is how you keep your weapons sharp and ready.

3. Mark 4:24 – It filters out the world. The world is toxic, and without the cushion of God’s Word in your spirit, you are susceptible to all the fear, perversion, and untruths around you all day long.

4. Matthew 5:13-15 – It attracts people. When you are a Christian, God’s spirit lives in you, and that makes you a light to people. When you are full of His light, your spirit affects EVERY relationship in your life, and helps every person you come across

It’s so important to read the Bible every day to keep your spirit strong!
