Too Stressed to Feel Blessed - When Rush & Hurry Steal Your Joy

DAY 3 OF 4

Resting But Always Tired

When you get home from a long day, the first and biggest desire for how you want to spend the rest of your day is probably to rest, right? All you want to do is take a load off and quit all your hard work. If that sounds like you, you’re not crazy. All of us are actually meant to rest and have a deep desire (and need) to rest, even if we love the work that we spend all day doing.

Like a car, if we just keep running without ever taking time to refuel, then we won’t run for very long. We all need a break and a way to truly refuel. This is one of the reasons that God gave us the gift of a weekly sabbath. One of the Ten Commandments is to "honor the sabbath”, but what does that actually mean? Well, a sabbath is more than just a day off from work. It is meant for us to take a break from our work, but it’s also meant for us to have a day to delight in God, trust in him, and do the things that truly refuel our souls. The sabbath is not a set of rules to follow for religion's sake, it’s a gift from God for relationship's sake. And our relationship with God is our most important relationship.

The goal is not for us to work like crazy all week and then take one day off and expect to live a rest-filled life. Because our Lord is also the Lord of the Sabbath, we are able to live every day resting in him. You were made for God, by God, and meant to live connected to and filled up by God. Truly resting in him will fill and fuel you in ways that nothing and no one else can.
