Through the Bible: Psalms

DAY 21 OF 24

Understanding God’s Righteousness

Trouble and anguish have found me out, but Your commandments are my delight. Your testimonies are righteous forever, give me understanding that I may live (Psalm 119:143-144 ESV)

“Righteous” is not a popular word. In fact, it’s often associated with being self-righteous, which has a negative vibe. But in Psalm 119, the psalmist says repeatedly that it is God and His righteous ways that will save him. God’s words are a joy, a delight, sweeter than honey, a lamp to the feet, a light to the path, a heritage. Even though there is trouble and anguish, and evil people try to persecute him, the psalmist will keep the commandments of God. There is no letting go.

Prayer

Dear God, help us to have a proper understanding of Your righteousness, which is good and wonderful and pure. We want to have a steadfast faith that will see us overcome problems and challenges. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
