You’ve had a Complete Re-boot!

Maybe the fastest man alive is Usain Bolt, and he can run 28 miles an hour. It took him a long time to get that fast. Of course, in his first year of life, he couldn’t run at all. But did you know a baby antelope can run almost as fast as Usain, just a day after it is born? 

Baby antelopes are born special, and when we come to Jesus, we are re-born special. When we come to Jesus, He changes everything, and we suddenly have a whole new life with all new possibilities! 

Not many people like caterpillars, almost everybody seems to like butterflies. They are actually the same creature, but completely re-made. In the chrysalis it’s like the caterpillar is turned to mush and redesigned into something of beauty and strength that can fly into the clouds for thousands of kilometers!

The Bible says that is the kind of thing that happened to us…

When you are in Jesus, what happens?

That’s right, a re-creation.

You are new. You don’t need to live the old way. All the old selfish stuff you used to do, is what we call sin. Now that you belong to Jesus, you want to do good instead of sin. 

But the funny thing is, as long as you live in this world, you have a part of you that is used to the old stuff and wants to go back to it (Like a dog goes back to eat its vomit…or worse!). Our enemy, the devil, is going to do everything he can to make you sin. But the cool thing is now you don’t have to. You are no longer a slave to sin.

Think of it like this: There is the old dead you and the new free you. It’s kind of like two dogs—a good dog and a bad dog (the vomit eating one). When you choose good, you are feeding the good dog. When you choose bad, you are feeding the bad dog. And that bad dog bites! The dog you feed is the one that gets stronger. Sin against God, and the bad dog gets stronger; obey God, and the good dog gets stronger. You have a choice.

In Jesus, what have you become?

Yes, completely new.

So, what will you do when you want to do things the old way?

First, remember that it’s that bad dog trying to get fed. Then, instead, feed the good dog—pray for God’s help—and believe, you’ve got it!
