The High Impact Entrepreneur: A 3-Day Devotional

DAY 2 OF 3

In the story Jesus told that we discussed yesterday, some servants did exactly as the master commanded. They took what he gave them, did business, and increased the value. They made a profit.

When the master came back, he was pleased, and pronounced, “Well done!” Then he promoted them and gave them authority over even more.

One servant was afraid, and he hid his mina away. Worried that what he might do with it wouldn’t be successful, he did nothing. He made no profit. The virtuous cycle of business—where every person creates value, sells it, makes a profit, and creates even more—was stopped cold.

His master was deeply grieved.

He took away that man’s mina and gave it to someone who would do a better job of stewarding it.

The minas in Jesus’s story can represent many things in our lives, but the point is the same. Whether we are talking about our resources, our gifts, our talents, or our time, God wants us to take what he has given us and use it to create more—to provide for ourselves, for others, and to share. As we do this with integrity, for the glory of his name, he promises us the same, “well done,” the faithful servants received.

Today I have a prayer starter for you as you consider minas in your own life:

Lord, thank you for entrusting me with time and treasure to steward, invest, and multiply. Help me not shrink back in fear but to steward these resources well, yielding a maximum profit for you, even today as I . . .(finish with your own words)
