Through the Bible: Ruth

DAY 1 OF 3

To Be Loyal To God

But Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go, return each of you to her mother's house. May the LORD deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead and with me. The LORD grant that you may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband!” Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their voices and wept.

But Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.

Ruth 1:8-9, 16 (ESV)

Verse 16 is a declaration of loyalty and faithfulness from Ruth to her mother-in-law.

In our world, loyalty in relationships and commitment are very rare nowadays. In the past, working your entire life for the same company was normal. Nowadays, people move from one company to another expecting better conditions or a higher salary. There is less and less loyalty.

Ruth didn't know what her life would be with Naomi, but she decided to stay with her. She was deeply influenced by Naomi’s love and personal sacrifice. It was also because of Ruth’s faith in God that she chose to stay loyal to Naomi. Their story reminds us how important it is to be loyal and faithful to God and to one another in Christ, because Jesus first loved us and gave His life for us.

Prayer:

Lord, bless us today as we seek to be loyal and honourable. Today, we make Ruth’s declaration of commitment as a declaration of faith, faithfulness, redemption, and discipleship in our Lord in response to His love and grace. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
