Peace: Fighting Anxiety God's WaySample

Peace: Fighting Anxiety God's Way

DAY 5 OF 5

Again, Jesus was trying to prepare His disciples for life on earth after He was no longer physically with them. Jesus made it clear that, although God was sending the Holy Spirit to dwell with believers, life wouldn’t magically become easy. In fact, Jesus actually promised His disciples they would suffer. He even used words like scattered and alone to describe their immediate future. That’s encouraging, right?

But Jesus didn’t leave His disciples confused or concerned about this; He pointed them back to God, then to Himself. First He told them He wouldn’t be alone because the Father would be with Him. Then, He said the same would be true for them: “You’ll find peace in me. Yes, even when you suffer.”

Jesus knew His disciples would feel scared and uncertain with all that would take place. He wanted them to be absolutely confident, even calm. Jesus focused on the victory He knew God would bring. He knew the Father’s plan. He trusted His Father. He knew that He had already conquered the world. The plan was set in motion. The enemy couldn’t stop it.

Jesus knew that what was coming would affect them all deeply. But He also knew He was already victorious. And that was where He wanted His disciples to gather their courage.

Since Jesus has given us peace and overcome the world, then that truth should make a difference in how we live our daily lives. We should live victoriously with faith in Jesus, our Victor.
