Struggle & Triumph | What God Says I HaveSample

Struggle & Triumph | What God Says I Have

DAY 7 OF 10

I Have The Mind Of Christ

“For, ‘Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 2:16

Imagine trying to learn how to swim only from reading instructions. Of course, that would be ridiculous, because swimming can only be learned by jumping in and being immersed in water. This is just like trying to know God without having the mind of Christ.

When our spirits were dead without Christ, God’s thoughts, which He communicated through Jesus and through His Word, the Bible, made no sense to us. In 1 Corinthians 2:11 we read: “For who knows a person's thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.” When a person turns away from sin and turns to Jesus in repentance, God gives that person His Spirit. God’s Spirit within us opens our minds to the things of God. Unless we have God’s Spirit and His mind, we can’t understand how to forgive people who hurt us, how to trust God when we can’t see Him, or how He can make us brand new creations in Christ.

In 1 Corinthians 2:10 we read that “these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.” Spiritual truths can only be understood through God’s Spirit which He freely offers us in Jesus. No human being can understand everything about God because we are finite beings, and He is infinite, but we can know God progressively more as we read His thoughts and know His ways from the Bible and as we obey what He tells us. With the Spirit and the mind of Christ we can see God, other people and ourselves from His perspective. When an ancient Hebrew king was about to be attacked by the armies of three other nations, he prayed, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” When we don’t know how to handle a situation we’re in, we can ask God for wisdom and He will answer because He has given us His mind and His Spirit.

As we grow in our faith, God makes us more like Jesus and moves us toward perfection. Even though we will never reach perfection here on earth, we will arrive in heaven perfected. When we stand before God, He will see us as perfect because we trusted in Jesus’ perfect sacrifice to take away our sins. Titus 3:5 says, “He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.”

Application: Ask God to renew your mind right now from a struggle or negative thoughts that you have been dealing with in your life.
