Getting Ready-21 Days of Prayer

DAY 5 OF 21

Kale…yuck. Have you ever gone out of your way to eat this “super food”? I know I haven’t. Wouldn’t you rather eat a juicy burger? Kale, though, it’s actually really good for you. There’s food you WANT versus food you NEED. Food sustains us, it keeps us healthy. In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus gives us an example of how to pray. He tells us what to ask for, and how to talk to God. One of the things he tells us to ask for is the “food we need” (NLT). How often do you ask God to supply you with your needs? So often we want to figure things out for ourselves. We focus on things we WANT. As parents, we want to provide for our children, we want to give them food, shelter, love and really, whatever they want. although we can’t give our children everything they WANT, we typically can give them everything they need. God wants us to rely on him for our needs in the same way. God wants us to ask him to provide us with what we need, not just what we WANT. In the book of James it says “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above”. God is here for you and He gives good Gifts, He gives perfect gifts. Don’t be afraid to ask Him.

Challenge: Take some time to pray the Lord's Prayer. Bring your needs to God. Humble yourself and ask even for the little things because He hears us when we pray.

Prayer Prompt: God, thank you for your provision, help us acknowledge the ways you have already supplied our needs.
