This Christmas Just Give Me Jesus

DAY 3 OF 4

Everlasting Father

I am too marveled at this verse. Isaiah calls Jesus, a child, a son, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, and ‘Everlasting Father’.

He is not discovered by research nor discerned by reason” - (C.H. Spurgeon).

Firstly, we do not worship one God revealed by three different names.  Neither do we worship three Gods.  But we worship One God in three Persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

Jesus is not the Father of the Trinity. But what Isaiah intends to convey is the ‘Father nature of Jesus’. God’s people needed to hear this, Jesus’ nature and character as a father to his children. In Hebrew literature, there is a great significance given to the role and responsibilities of a father. The role of the father in a family is to protect, comfort, and provide.

A life without a father can be really difficult. But Isaiah prophesied that Israel needed redemption, they needed a Messiah. Who can deliver them? Who can protect them? Who can provide for them? Who can show mercy and love? Who can redeem them? Jesus.

Jesus is the Everlasting Father. He is faithful, tender, loving, He provides, He protects and He guards His children. Such is the heart of Christ for us. He reigns forever and ever.

God’s greatest gift to us is Jesus. It is because of Him, we can face tomorrow. He lives and He lives to care for us. He lives and He lives to protect us. He lives and He lives to provide for us. He lives and He lives to deliver us. He is an ‘Everlasting Father’. Jesus is unchanging.

Take away:

Jesus the ‘Everlasting Father’ is our Savior. This Christmas, just give me Jesus.
