My house was dark during the daylight. While my young children quietly watched cartoons, I laid on the couch unable to move. Dizziness had debilitated me; my body had finally reached a breaking point after being pushed too hard for too long. It was my own fault. I somehow thought I could handle it but that was exactly my problem: “I” was handling it. I had slowly drifted to a place of living in my own efforts. Then, all at once, everything came crashing down on top of me. In that moment of darkness, I cried out to God for help. I had lost my way. My passion for God and His church had waned. My excitement to partner with amazing ministries was now overshadowed by guilt because I couldn’t give my best. Navigating the pressures of personal and ministry projects was consuming my mind. Sleep felt like a distant memory and caffeine was now my best friend. No matter how hard I tried not to skip a beat with my family, I failed. My life was in constant movement, but I was going nowhere. I was numb as I questioned how I got to this place. How did the joyful, passionate woman filled with purpose end up so lost? My efforts had failed me. But God, in His mercy, lifted His broken daughter and beautifully restored me. It wasn’t instantaneous; it was a journey as He gently spoke to my heart and unveiled layers of brokenness that I had camouflaged as good. In the midst of my pain, I had to acknowledge my weakness. I had to fight my natural instinct to be everything to everyone. There was no more room for “me” in this mess; it was now about letting the Holy Spirit lead my life. Maybe you’ve found yourself in this place before or even right now. When you take God out of the equation and start to do things in your own power, you will find yourself in a place of absolute depletion. Today is the day to recognize that you are not called to do everything; you are called to do the very best thing God has for you. Seek Him wholeheartedly, and He will direct your steps.
