The Worship Project Devotional Series

DAY 5 OF 6

Father, I Thank You

I think everyone would agree that we’re collectively enduring a hard season. This year hasn’t turned out the way anyone thought it would. We’ve had to cancel plans, rearrange schedules and create new routines in the wake of COVID-19. We’ve all lost something to a varying degree, and part of this year has involved grieving what could have been.

In any season of loss or suffering, it can be challenging to find the good. And it can be even harder to find gratitude.

But do you know what our family’s discovered during this time of uncertainty? There is so much to be thankful for. And the same is true for you and your situation. No matter the circumstance, there is always cause for gratitude.

When we give thanks, even in the midst of things we don’t understand or circumstances we wouldn’t choose, we are declaring God’s goodness over our lives.

Giving thanks might look like murmuring a simple prayer under your breath, or it might look like making a list of all the things you’re grateful for in this season. Friends, once you start making a list of all the things you’re grateful for, it will change your perspective. It’s certainly changed ours!

Jeremy may not be able to tour during this season, but we’ve had more time together as a family than we’ve had in years.

We may not be able to record in a studio with other musicians right now, but we can record an entire worship project at home.

We may not be able to connect with fans face to face, but we can connect with fans online; and that’s been really rewarding.

Our song, “Father, I Thank You,” is simply our declaration of God’s goodness in this season and the one to come: “Father, I thank you / For this glorious rescue / This moment of breakthrough / Father, I thank You.”

As children of God, we have an endless list of reasons to be thankful, because even in the midst of hardship and seasons of waiting, God’s promises are true.

Colossians 3:15 (NIV) reminds us, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

In this season, let’s allow the peace of Christ to reign in our hearts. When we do, I believe our gratitude will overflow.
