GODLINESS WITH CONTENTMENT IS GREAT GAIN

Knowing and doing the will of God brings godliness to our lives. We know God and delight in His love by obeying His commands. It is easier to flee from things that pull us away from God when we are aligned with God in our thoughts and actions. 

Have you been looking for contentment in God or the things of this world? For we brought nothing into this world and we cannot take anything out of it. So why do we put so much of our focus and attention on worldly things rather than God? Why do we listen to man's voice more than God's? No wonder we are discontent!  

1 Timothy 6:6-7 tells us that great gain is possible when we are living godly lives by focusing on God's riches instead of our possessions.

"But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into this world and we cannot take anything out of the world."

How do we live godly lives and flee things that cause discontentment when there are so many temptations in this world?  We are to live in the pursuit of God with our eyes on the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. When we do, we will find that we want to please God more and more and He becomes our passion and pursuit.

"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you." 

Matthew 6:33

 How do we keep our focus on God? Is there a secret way of living?  When we delight in God, our hearts align with God. When we spend time with Him in prayer and study of His Word, our desires become His for us. We  We want to please God above ourself we we are devoted to Him.

"Delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart."  

Psalm 37:4

We seek His will above ours and surrender self, we put on a new self with a new identity in Christ. Our old self dies and we become alive in Christ with new desires to live the right way. We are renewed in the spirit of our minds when we put on our new self!

"Be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in the righteousness and holiness."

Ephesians 4:23-24

Dear Lord,

I will surrender all to You so that You can do something new in me. I am renewed in the Spirit as I live out my faith. Godliness with contentment is great gain when I make my mission a simple pursuit of You, Lord!
