[Confident Series] Confidence In Prayer

DAY 4 OF 5

Pray for One Another

We are encouraged to pray for our character, our needs, and our leaders. But that is not all. We are also instructed to pray for others around us who are struggling with sin. God tells us to pray for our brothers and sisters, not only to bless them when they are successfully serving Him, but also to pray for them when they are sinning. The Word of God instructs us to pray for those we love when they are obviously in the wrong.

In other words, instead of arguing with or gossiping about someone who might be misguided at the moment, we should pray for such a brother and sister. God can have mercy on our loved ones through our prayer. God can also change their hearts and guide them through our prayer. Prayer really accomplishes miracles in our lives and in the lives of others.

The Bible is full of the examples of this truth. In the Old Testament, Moses prayed for the people of Israel when they sinned so that God would have mercy on them. God did spare the people from His wrath because of Moses’ intercession. Jesus prayed for Peter on the night that the latter betrayed Him. We know that Peter subsequently became one of the greatest apostles of the early Church. Our Lord even told us to pray for our enemies and for those who persecute us.

We can pray for both believing and unbelieving individuals when we see them committing a sin. If an individual who sins is a Christian, God may lead this person’s heart to His truth and repentance through our prayer. If a person we are praying for is not a Christian, God may lead this individual to the saving knowledge of Christ. Sometimes, we might not be sure how to pray for a person we see in the wrong. Maybe, we are involved in the situation and are hurt. In such cases, the Scripture tells us to ask for the help from the Holy Spirit; He intercedes for us when we do not know how to pray.

Our prayer can literally save a life. We should never underestimate a prayer of a righteous person. The Word of God tells us that our prayer has great power. Therefore, we should use the power of prayer to intercede for each other.
