Wisdom Is Calling

DAY 2 OF 7

Wisdom Is Calling You, Part 2

Solomon paints a graphic picture of God’s wisdom calling out to a sinful human race. Wisdom has a message to deliver, and like any good marketer promoting a product, wisdom goes where the people are. She does not lurk in the shadows and dark alleys; she seeks the most public places—the locations where she can be clearly and audibly heard by most people. She strategically positions herself on the high places of the city and nation. Wisdom stations herself at the points where paths meet—the intersections of streets, the crossroads of the nation. As people hustle about the business of their daily lives, wisdom is there. All who pass her must make a conscious choice to accept or reject her, to be wise and make the right choice or to be foolish and make the wrong choice.

Throughout the teaching of this first division of Proverbs, Solomon has emphasized and contrasted these two paths: the path of life, and the path of destruction. All who choose the path of life do so because they heed the value of wisdom and her life-preserving cry. All who persist on the highway to hell pass by her, and they deliberately refuse her plea.

Consider this important truth: wisdom does far more than just proclaim words of warning to those on the path of wickedness. She also offers hope to a race that has inherited a sinful nature and passes that sinful nature down to all succeeding generations (Romans 5:12). Death and hell are not the only destinations; there is also a path of life, life abundant and life eternal (John 10:10). Pain, misery, bondage, and defeat are not the only options for life. Healing, joy, freedom, and victory are available to all people. Wisdom has good news—the best news! And she stands on the rooftops, at the crossroads, and at the city gates, where she cries out the glorious news to all who will hear.

Study Questions:

· Are you actively choosing to listen to wisdom's plea in your life? What does that look like for you?

· Are there areas of your life where wisdom seems to be quiet?

· Are you living in the freedom and victory of wisdom?
