Teach Us to Pray

DAY 2 OF 6

Pray Together

Acts 12:1–17

In team sports like football and basketball, it takes a whole team to win. One player may have a great game, while another player may have a poor performance. Every once in a while, one player can take over a game—LeBron James, Patrick Mahomes, Lionel Messi—and help lead the team to victory, but even in those games, in order to win, the whole team must come together under a common goal.

Being in unity with others is a powerful thing, and it’s no different when it comes to prayer. Unifying with others and praying for the same things at the same time is a movement strong enough to make the forces of darkness shudder in fear.

In Acts 12, Peter is miraculously freed from prison. But in verse 12, we get a glimpse into why. Luke, the writer of Acts, tells us that many people had gathered to pray for Peter. This collective prayer moved the hand of God to release Peter. This was such an incredible miracle that those who gathered to pray didn’t believe that their prayers were answered, even when Peter himself showed up to their prayer meeting!

When the people of God gather to pray, there’s no telling what can happen. And not because of some power that lies within themselves, but because of the limitless power of God!

Some time this week, maybe at school with your friends or teammates, at church, or at home with your family, gather to pray. It may seem awkward at first, but don’t quit! Taking the time to pray with others is worth it.
