DAY 2 OF 21

How to Pray

Prayer is one of those things we know we’re supposed to do on a daily basis, but it often gets lost in the day for many reasons. Busyness and external noise are two significant factors that often deter us from having any time to communicate with our Heavenly Father.

Besides Christ Himself, one of the greatest biblical examples of how to pray was the Old Testament prophet Daniel. Daniel 6:10-11 says:

“10 But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God. 11 Then the officials went together to Daniel’s house and found him praying and asking for God’s help.”

In context, the leaders of Babylon made it illegal for anyone to pray to anyone but King Darius. Daniel knew he must continue to pray, despite the external noise and threats from those in authority. He didn’t make a scene publicly by praying through a megaphone. He did what he always had done. Soon after, Daniel was thrown into a pit of lions, where God would deliver him, and Darius would declare that the God of Daniel was in fact the true living God.

Goal:

To have an effective prayer time, shut down the outside clutter. Put your phone away. Go somewhere quiet. Talk to God and take time to listen. When you do, you’ll see how effective your prayers can be.
