DAY 5 OF 6

Part Five - Building Faith

So far in this devotional, we have learned what having great faith looks like and that when we have faith, God can move in big ways. Today we are going to look at building and growing faith.

In Matthew 8:23-27, we see Jesus and His disciples out on the lake in a boat. But all of a sudden, a big storm came upon the lake. Jesus was asleep and the disciples were frightened. They woke Jesus asking Him to save them. At once, Jesus got up and the wind and the waves stopped - the lake was peaceful and still once more.

Jesus challenged the disciples, asking them “You of little faith! Why are you so afraid?” The disciples struggled to believe that when things got hard and difficult that God would look after them. Can you also lose sight of Jesus in challenging circumstances or when life gets hard? Do you sometimes forget that He is there to protect and care for you?

Jesus stayed calm throughout the storm because He knew God would look after Him. We, too, can have the faith to believe that God is always good. He is always with us, even when things look scary. Through Him, we can have peace and we do not need to worry about anything.

After Jesus stopped the storm, the disciples exclaimed “What kind of man is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him!” They saw that He was good and was going to keep them safe!

ASK:

What is your automatic response when things get hard?

How can you live outwardly showing that God is always with you?

PRAY:

Dear God, thank you that you are always with me. Thank you that you look after me. Thank you that I can have faith that you are always good, even when I am having a tough time.  Lord, I pray that you give me peace and confidence every day. I pray that I would know more of the joy that you give and that I don’t have to worry about anything. Amen.
