DAY 2 OF 3

My mother recently shared with me that as a little girl I was the “but why” kid who always needed an explanation before I did or believed anything. Nearly 27 years later, I see that not much has changed as I still have a yearning for details and explanations. Amongst my closest friends, I’m coined as being a person with unwavering faith. I have the type of faith that takes God at His word and believes that all things are possible through Him. However, I’ve recently noticed that in my act of faith my mind is still simultaneously running through every potential “what if” and formulating a plan to accommodate each one.

  • Have you ever acted in faith but your mind was still strategizing, planning, and overthinking?

  • Have you ever used the “faith without works is dead” Scripture to justify trying to take matters into your own hands?

  • Have you ever took a leap of faith and waited for God to provide reassurance through a detailed “how-to guide” just so you can feel that your faith wasn’t in vain?

Here lies the dilemma: True faith does not need proof!

Let me explain. I recently heard a quote that said: “when God tells me to move, I do it before I have a chance to reason.” Reason means to justify or the mind's ability to think or understand. A lot of times having faith in God makes little to no sense at all. It’s not always easy and it definitely doesn’t always feel good.

Here lies grace: God’s word proves that your faith will make you whole.

Reading and dwelling on Scripture is a great way to identify when your mind is overloaded with thoughts that differ from what God has already ordained. Any thoughts that are contrary to God’s Word is from the devil. Use God's Word as a sword to rebuke him as often as you need to as James 4:7 says "he will flee from you."

Reflection:

For each thought, worry, or fear identified in Day 1, write a Scripture detailing a promise of God that counteracts it.
