Growing in Faith

DAY 3 OF 5

HE DID NOT DARE ACCEPT THE INVITATION

This is a story that gives a strong picture of the nature of faith in our lives.

An acrobat, best known for his ability to walk a high tightrope, came to Niagara Falls and stretched his rope through the thunderous current that lies between Canada and the United States. People, holding their breath, watched him as  he walked, and then ran across the waterfall. He did the same thing with his eyes closed, while accompanied by the sound of a drum being hit. Then, with his eyes still closed, he pushed a wheelbarrow across the waterfall.

The crowd grew tense, and the acrobat shouted at them, "Who believes that I can push a man on this wheelbarrow across a waterfall?"

A man at the front of the crowd waved and shouted, "I believe! I believe!"

"If so," said the acrobat, "Come and sit in this wheelbarrow."

But apparently the man did not dare accept the invitation of the acrobat to come and sit on the wheelbarrow, because of his fear. The man had faith in believing the acrobat, but he was no able to act on what he believed.

Reflection:

So often we have faith to believe in God and fear to act on it at the same time. Are we courageous enough to step by faith because we truly believe in God’s power? Let us hold on to our faith in God and believe that God will open the way as we continue walking

Faith must always be accompanied by action. (Diane Benze)
