Overcoming The Monster Of GriefSample

Overcoming The Monster Of Grief

DAY 1 OF 7

You Are Not Alone

God created each of us with the capacity to develop deep, loving relationships with Him and others. Those special connections are what make life meaningful and fulfilling. But when relationships are broken through death, divorce, betrayal or other traumatic circumstances, the pain and loss we feel can seem unbearable. That feeling is grief—it’s real, and it hurts.

In your situation, God may seem silent, even distant. But truly He is there with you, already working to bring you through the difficult but necessary stages of the grieving process.

It may help to understand that Jesus personally felt the very grief that you are now experiencing. God can bring you through situations you think you won’t survive, or feel you’ll be stuck in forever. He can make you comfortable in the most uncomfortable places and give you peace in the midst of trauma.

As you try to deal with your grief, remember these truths: God’s comfort is real. The Holy Spirit, the Comforter, lives in you. In addition, God’s Word is an essential source of comfort for us as we navigate difficult times. Finally, the language of the spiritual world is prayer. And since the spiritual world is the source of our power, victory, peace, joy, and everything else we need, it’s essential that we learn to speak it.

We’ll explore this in more detail on a later day, but it’s worth noting at the start that there is no safer haven than a loving, supportive family. Grief tempts us to push others away and refuse their offers of sympathy and help. Don’t let pride or past differences rob you of this support. Friends and church members can also be of solace—knowing that others understand, even partially, what you are experiencing can be like a healing salve on your wounds.
