Eternity Is Our Home

DAY 3 OF 5

Christ Redirects Us

As we established in the last devotional, we do not naturally walk in the direction of home despite our eternal longing for it. We need something (or someone) bigger than ourselves to point us in the right direction, and this is exactly what Christ came to do for us.

God Himself, Jesus Christ, came down from Heaven as a man to die and make a way for us to return home. He knew our desire for home because, as God, He was there at the very beginning, before Adam and Eve’s sin separated humanity from God.

Christ understands our separation now because He stepped into it. On the cross, he bore our sins and for the first time in all eternity, He personally experienced the effects of sin, even though he lived a sinless life. As you read yesterday, he “bore our transgressions” to save us.

But death was not the end for Christ.

He resurrected from the dead, defeating death and sin while making it possible for humanity to do the same. After ascending into Heaven, He sent His Spirit for those that believe in Him, and now, with the power of the Spirit, anyone who trusts in Christ can live in the original, eternal plan of God.

Because of Christ, we can begin heading back home.

The scriptures today give us a clearer picture of how this all works and call us to action. Christ has set us free from the bondage of sin, so why would we not live in that freedom? If we can now live in the Spirit that leads us home, that meets our greatest needs, why wouldn’t we? As you read these passages, take a second to praise God and think of ways you can start living in the Spirit today.

About this Plan

Eternity Is Our Home

This study will look at how our eternal home is with God. While we are exiles on earth, this plan will show how God has a plan to bring all of His people back home to Him.
