The Call Of God

DAY 3 OF 3

Ministry Distinctives

We cannot tell you where to go, when to leave, or how you are going to get there, but the following six ministry distinctives will characterize the disposition of your faith journey.

Word-Centered. We believe the authority of Scripture marks our way of life.

A Willing Spirit. We give God time to spiritually work in our character and circumstances.

Gift-Oriented. God encourages all ethnicities, economic levels, genders, and ages to engage in His Kingdom using their natural and spiritual giftings.

Faith-Based. God instills in us the ability to trust Him.

Vision-Driven. Vision is where you are going and who you are taking with you (Romans 1:16-17).

Supernatural-Provision. The field is the world. If you go, God will provide. And whatever God provides will be enough (Matthew 20:6-16).

God’s Word and Spirit, our gifts, faith, vision, and His provision ultimately shape our direction to the “other side.” Where is the “other side” for you today?

Develop a life objective

Several years ago, a group of friends and I developed life objectives as we sensed God’s leading. It’s hard to imagine accomplishing anything without a clear objective. My life objective developed into this statement: “To know Christ and to make him known by loving, winning, and training men and women as fast as possible in order to help fulfill the Great Commission.”

Paul had a clear objective: “We proclaim Him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone complete in Christ” (Colossians 1:28).

Prayerfully begin to think about what you want to give your life to. Begin to write down some thoughts. Pray over your thoughts and words, carefully considering what God is revealing to you. Write out your life objective, looking at it with an eternal perspective because faith and time are linked.

You could start with short term goals in the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical, relational, social, professional, avocational, or financial spheres of your life. Whatever the goal, begin today. I encourage you to write down a list with three or four short-term goals. Establish a date for when you will accomplish each goal. Do it by taking into consideration your life objective. Pray and write down your heart’s conviction with God’s Word as guidance. Show your life objective and your goals to your pastor, leader, or counselor in your church, so that he or she can give you support in this beautiful growth process.
