The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of

DAY 4 OF 7

Breaking the Dreamer

A broken heart can be the matrix of greatness, if we respond correctly. A broken heart can happen a number of different ways, whether through a crushed dream, a destroyed relationship, or a devastating circumstance. Of course having our hearts broken is painful and no one wants to go through the process. It’s the same paradox of wanting to go to heaven but not wanting to die. We all want the benefits of greatness, but not all of us are willing to go through the process of getting there. If we are to achieve our dream and truly live our God-given destiny, then there will be one or more seasons of brokenness that we will need to go through. That’s right, we probably won’t have our heart broken just once, but multiple times. Again this is the seed of greatness. There is something miraculous and supernatural that happens when a broken heart is handed to a loving God. It’s like God takes all of those little shattered and broken pieces of our hearts and buries them as seed for our future.

The process of being broken is up to us. We get to determine how long or short the process is, and we get to determine how hard or easy it is as well. It all depends on how we respond to the breaking. Our habits will determine our attitudes. Brokenness can produce bitterness or greatness. It can keep us from our dream or propel us toward our dream. We can be bitter or we can be better but we can’t be both.

It’s up to God to make the dream come to pass and it’s up to us to obedient through the process of brokenness. This is where the rubber meets the road. We have to take into account everything that happens to us as seed for our future. We can’t fall into blaming people around us or blaming life in general. We must understand that our circumstances don’t determine our destiny – they only prepare us for it. God has a huge destiny for you. He has something magnificent prepared, but we must trust in our all-loving Father. We must believe that what we are going through and experiencing are all contributing to the greater glory which will reveal our later story!
