#JESUS2019 - Daily Devotionals

DAY 40 OF 48

The greatest commandment was always “Love God and your neighbors with all your strength!” In the first part of the Bible there was another rule connected to this commandment: “Evil behavior is punished, good behavior is blessed.”

With this background knowledge, Paul’s statement: “Christ’s love has been poured out into your hearts.” feels likes heaven on earth for me.

Because this means: “The heart of whoever stays close to me, will be changed by Jesus’ love. And then you will be able to love and do good!”

Christ’s love has been poured out into your hearts.

You can pour so much into yourself, but what if Jesus’ love is poured into you? And then into your heart? Have you already experienced what it feels like and what effect it has? If you haven’t yet, may I ask you whether your heart is even open to the love of Jesus? Jesus says: "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Your treasure is what you love, appreciate and what matters most to you. Is it your partner? Your career? Your hobbies? If so, your heart is there. And then your heart won’t be open for Jesus’ love! That is quite shocking, isn’t it?

The goal for you is to make Jesus your greatest treasure today. And also to put him first in your finances, relationships and work. Then your heart will also be open for Jesus’ love. Because your heart is there where you treasure is. And what happens then?

When this love of Jesus is poured into your heart, your heart will be changed. And this will certainly result in a fruitful lifestyle. There is no other outcome. No one will have to do things for the sake of having to do them anymore. And nobody will have to squeeze good deeds out with his whole strength. How cool is that?

We will then automatically be fruit bearing vines, people who can and want to love from within! Because Jesus’ love drives you to do this.

ACTION STEP:

Think about the areas (finances, health, job, relationship) where you want Jesus to once again be the boss. What do you need to do for this to happen?
