#JESUS2019 - Daily Devotionals

DAY 11 OF 48

One of the deepest and most unconditional kinds of love is between parents and children. There is this invisible bond that supports, that gives hope. They work to make sure it doesn’t break.

How great this love is can often be seen in bad situations: when the child suffers, then the parents do everything they can to help. When the child is plagued by self-doubt, their parents often find a way to encourage the child. In case of great fear, just having mom or dad around works true miracles. Their connection is so strong.

In the face of deadly disease, most parents would prefer to suffer and die themselves if their child could survive instead. When bone marrow donors are required, the costs often run very high. This shows how valuable individual lives are. And when a suitable donor is found, the gratitude is enormous.

I imagine God’s love is like that. In that case, too, there is this invisible bond for which Jesus fights. This good shepherd would do more than just one lap of honour for each individual sheep. He gives the sheep courage, takes away fears and worries. The good shepherd gives himself completely, so that you, the individual sheep, are fine and can live happily.

ACTION STEP:

Write down your biggest need of this moment on a piece of paper. Maybe these are physical needs, spiritual questions, insecurities or inner wounds. Now sit down in a quiet place for a few minutes and ask yourself what the good shepherd could say to you about these things.
