Living a Pure Life

DAY 4 OF 5

Guarding your heart is the wisest thing you can do.

Yesterday, we talked about having and setting the right kind of filters so that we can live a pure life. Today, let’s talk about other people’s filters for you—namely your parents.

A lot of times, restrictions can seem like a buzz kill. Your parents put passwords on the app store so you can’t download what you want. You’re not allowed to watch that horror movie everyone at school is talking about. Or maybe you’re frustrated because your parents don’t seem to trust you or give you freedom.

But what if those protections are a blessing? Would you really be happy if you were left alone to do whatever you wanted for a whole day? What starts out as exciting can quickly become pretty scary if you’re unprepared. In fact, check out today’s video about that.

You know when that door unlocks itself you’re hiding and internally panicking. So, passwords and restrictions aren’t the enemy. They’re actually paving the way for you to live a life of purity.

The Bible tells us to obey our parents, and the book of Proverbs—which is a whole book all about how you become wise—talks about how fools think they know what’s right, but wise people listen to advice. Are you robbing yourself of wisdom because you think you know better than the people trying to protect you?

If you want more freedom, you’ve got to earn it. You’ve got to prove you’re trustworthy by obeying the standards set for you. Want to make a difference? 1 Timothy 4:12 tells us that you shouldn’t let anyone look down on you for being young but instead show an example by the way you live and in your purity.

Purity matters. When you follow the standards other people set for you, when you set strong standards yourself, and when you pursue purity, people notice. And those people start recognizing that you’re wise and that you must follow Jesus.

So, when you think about it—guarding your heart is the wisest thing you can do. You’ll need people—like your parents—to help you set the right standards so that you can protect your heart against things that could prevent you from living a pure life.
