Am I Enough: Embracing The Truth About Who You Are

DAY 10 OF 10

Lie #10: You Will Never Be Enough

I’m actually a great choice for God, because he likes to choose the weak to show His strength. The Bible is full of examples of God doing this. We serve a God who chooses the unqualified to fulfill His plan, children as the example of the type of faith a disciple should have, rainy days to bring rainbows, and—I’d contend—you and me to be victorious in battles, all by the power of Jesus.

I’ve faced battles where I didn’t feel strong enough. You’ve probably had the same experience. The confidence to be victorious doesn’t come from how strong we are, but from how strong God is. The battles we face serve to prove His strength. We don’t have to be strong soldiers to fight in His army, just soldiers. Rest in the truth that although God does give us more than we can handle, He will never give us more than He can handle. Lean on Him in your trials and there will be joy in the morning.

One battle I struggle with is feeling “enough”—especially pretty enough. Across generations, women have struggled with this. My turning point came when I realized I would never be pretty enough by the world’s standards and finally grasped what mattered most: God did not create me to be like everyone else. He created me to be uniquely me. I can’t begin to describe the freedom I experienced when I fully comprehended that I am God’s handcrafted daughter.

Recognizing the lies our society promotes and resting in the truth He has spoken into me brought me a security in my appearance I’d never felt before. A woman will never be completely at peace with her looks until she believes she is beautiful not because of who she is, but whose she is. The world offers us makeup to be prettier, push-up bras to be sexier, and fad diets to give us confidence. God offers the truth that He created us and has declared us beautiful—and that is a fact to celebrate.

We’ve talked a lot about looks. It has been a years-long battle for me, and I know it’s a widespread source of stress for many. For those of you who don’t feel “enough,” I’m praying for you—praying that you and I will remember our Creator holds the world in His hand and holds us near to His heart. You are loved. You are worthy. God says so.

As Christians, we encounter so many moments where we have to decide whether to use what we have learned. Moments where God can use our gifts and talents to build His kingdom. When those moments come to you, are you going to make them count? Or will you look away and hope someone else fills the need? The thought of putting into practice what we’ve learned can be intimidating. This is where we come back to relying on God’s strength, not our own.

Respond

How do you look at your weaknesses? How can someone be weak and strong at the same time?

How can seeing the world’s lies for what they are help you rely on God’s strength?

How can you rely on God’s strength to show Jesus to others through you?
