How To Grow Up

DAY 3 OF 7

Mind your mouth.

Yesterday, we learned about three ways to start growing up: set your goals, mind your mouth, and read the room. Setting smart goals helps us grow into smarter people, and today, we’ll talk about how minding our mouths can lead to maturity.

Watch today’s video to learn how to transform some immature phrases into mature phrases.

Some of those phrases may be an exaggeration, but the bottom line is that how we speak to those around us says a lot about how we’re growing up. Toddlers throw tantrums when they’re upset, and we wouldn’t dream of pitching a fit in the middle of a grocery store these days. But, what if some of the things you’re saying are just as immature as a tantrum? Are your words immature or mature?

Don’t miss the importance of minding your mouth. The Bible is full of verses about how powerful the tongue can be. And when it talks about the tongue, it’s talking about the words you speak. The Bible says your words have power to bring death or life. That should change the way we talk because that’s a lot of power coming from our mouths!

The big deal is that the words you say are an indication of what you believe. If you believe God is good and that you should treat others like Jesus would, then your words will be different. You’ll be encouraging. You’ll treat others with respect. You’ll be polite. You’ll be mature. And you’ll choose your words wisely—avoiding bad words and speaking good words.

So, are your words showing people what Jesus is like or pointing away from Him? Think about it. Your words give people an idea of what you’re like. Do you like the impression you’re giving?

Today, think about ways you can start taking your words to a more mature level. Get rid of your immature translations, and focus on treating those around you with respect. Because when you do that—you’re taking steps toward growing up.
