Cry Like A Man

DAY 4 OF 4

While none of us are immune to a lack of confidence at times telling us we’re never good enough, so many of our failures are due to a lack of mental fortitude needed to overcome the discouragement and weariness of battle. Just because we’ve broken through a challenge once—using brute force—doesn’t mean we’ll be able to do it again … and again.

Consistent victory comes from a much deeper place.

The Most High said that “no one will succeed by strength alone” (1 Sam. 2:9). Men need to realize that “the fight” is won within themselves before it can be won out in the world. “As [a man] thinks in his heart, so is he” (Prov. 23:7 NKJV). In other words, what you think can directly influence what you experience and how you experience it.

Regardless of ethnicity or economic status, we all face barriers—daily hardships that seem to keep us from moving forward in a healthy direction. But instead of letting those challenges beat you down, use them to develop the faith, focus, fortitude, and follow through that can and will lift you up.

Perhaps you’re feeling that it’s time to break the chain that was passed from father to son, to begin a new life with peace at its center. To breathe easy in the midst of the chaos and to act and respond in the strength that comes with knowing who you are and what you’re made of. That includes compassion, gentleness, courage, and a fiery spirit. And at the core of you lives a power so great, nothing can dominate or destroy it—the power of love.

Adhere to these wise words: “He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city” (Prov. 16:32 NASB). An undeniable calm abides in that kind of depth. You don’t need to prove yourself to anyone. You are designed to feel deeply. It’s how you were made—you are human.

As I take a moment and look back at my own journey, I can honestly say that I’ve finally arrived at a place where I can thank the Most High for the tests and tribulations that have made me who I am today. If I hadn’t prayed for Him to break me, I could not have accomplished all that I have and all that I still have to do.

That goes for you too, my brother.

If you’re in “prison” reading this, I invite you to walk out of your cell right now. With Yah’s help, you can. And when you do, something amazing will happen: You’ll no longer be a victim of past trauma, shackled behind walls of negative emotions. But you’ll be a free man who has conquered the worst and can now cry with the strongest.

I pray that healing overtakes you, that you will live freely from your authentic self, and that it propels you into a fuller, brighter future—a future filled with hope, love, joy, and tears.
