God's Word Through African Eyes: A 30-Day Devotional

DAY 4 OF 30

A Model African Leader: a devotion on leadership

From an Africa Study Bible touch point:

This Pharaoh was a model of political leadership of his African country. He was a very generous man. Pharaoh offered Joseph’s brothers the best part of the land (Genesis 47:6, 11). He gave Joseph’s father an extravagant state funeral (Genesis 50:7-11).

Pharaoh showed wisdom by choosing trustworthy people to manage his affairs. Pharaoh recognized that the spirit of God had given Joseph wisdom. Instead of feeling threatened, Pharaoh trusted Joseph to govern Egypt as his second in command (Genesis 41:37-43). He made sure that those “with special skills” were put in charge of his own livestock (Genesis 47:6).

This Pharaoh was fair and wise in the way he handled the country’s land. He was concerned that his people had enough food. He also gave the priests a regular amount of food during the famine (Genesis 47:22).

Today:

Pray for your political leaders by name. Pray that they would be generous to the poor, honour foreigners, and lead countries through crises with wisdom. Pray that they would have mercy in taking care of their country’s basic needs, managing land wisely, and choosing godly advisors.
