A Godly Perspective During Personal Tragedies Sample

A Godly Perspective During Personal Tragedies

DAY 3 OF 4

A Truer Perspective

One of the reasons we can be lazy about perspective is because we underestimate its power. We try to see more of the truth of the world around us. But it becomes overwhelming and confusing, and we ask ourselves, "Does it really even matter? The world is what it is. Why should I bother with perspective?"

Yet, Paul tells the church, “Don’t be like the people of this world, but let God change the way you think.” Perspective is both true and powerful. It changes our behavior. It informs our decisions. It influences the way we think, and the way we think influences the way we act. When we are going through a tragedy, or hard times, or even in simply day-to-day living, choosing a Godly perspective makes the biggest difference because with God we have hope, we have a foundation, we have love. This does not mean we don’t hurt or have emotions. Many of us try to manipulate a "positive" perspective. And it is this very thing that causes us to try to manipulate positive outcomes, avoiding pain and side-stepping difficulty.

Pursuing perspective is not about shuffling through the deck until we find something we like. It is about chasing the truth, at all costs. And it is certain that the biggest deterrent to chasing the truth is when we realize we won’t always like what we catch. Yet, Jesus promises that His Spirit, the Spirit of truth, will guide us into all the truth.

David sang it best, “For great is your love, higher than the heavens, your truth reaches to the skies.” A true perspective is transformative. It is a significant domino in the line of meaningful and intentional living. If we discover a true perspective, our decisions will be life-changing ones.
