Harvesting The Abundant Life

DAY 4 OF 5

Sowing Seeds for a Bountiful Harvest

Worship

The writer of Psalm 33 describes praise as “fitting” for we who trust in God (Psalm 33:1). Another version says praise is “becoming” to us. God deserves worship. Not only is it right to worship Him, doing so places things in proper perspective for us. We fall in line with the truth about both God and us. We are where we should be – humble before God – and we acknowledge Him as high above us.

Who is like You, Adonai, among the gods? Who is like You, glorious in holiness, awesome in praises, doing wonders?”  ―Exodus 15:11

Worshiping God helps us rightly align our hearts with Him as the first priority in our lives.. Participating in worship fosters more fruit of the Spirit. If we want to experience more of the abundant life, we must keep ourselves and God in the proper order in our hearts. Worship and praise help to do that for us.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a vital part of praise and worship, often preceding and igniting them. The apostle Paul says plainly: it is God’s will for us to give thanks – in everything (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

Gratitude is pleasant. A thankful heart experiences joy. How kind of God to instruct us to be thankful so that we can experience more of this fruit of the Spirit. Yeshua (Jesus) said, “The thief comes only to steal, slaughter and destroy. I have come that they might have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). Developing a habit of gratitude reveals the abundance He has presented to us.

Prayer

Clearly, prayer is essential to our relationship with God. It is how we draw near to Him and experience Him drawing near to us. Prayer is an intentional conversation when we worship and give thanks. The Bible instructs us: “Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving” (Colossians 4:2).

Prayer is a place of shelter for us because we can be utterly honest with God who already knows our every thought, emotion, and weakness. David encourages us to “Trust in Him at all times, you people. Pour out your heart in His presence. God is our refuge” (Psalm 62:8/Psalm 62:9 in TLV).

In Psalm 16:11, David explains that in God’s presence, we find abundance of joy. We experience His presence through prayer. Cultivating our prayer lives exposes us to more soul-nourishing fellowship with God and reaps a harvest of His goodness to us.

As we sow seeds of worship, thanksgiving and prayer into our daily lives, our eyes open to the bounty of life we possess in Yeshua.
