Sound of a Life Changing – Matthew West

Something inside me came alive that day

I’ve never been the same

Aside from Christ, perhaps no one in scripture was called to a higher calling than Mary. The Bible is filled with stories of people who were called by God to do incredible things. Moses led the Israelites away from enslavement in Egypt. Jonah was called to bring God’s word to the people of Nineveh. Prophets like Elijah, Isaiah and Jeremiah were consistently called to communicate to God’s people on his behalf, bringing good news and bad. But Mary? Mary was charged with carrying the life of Jesus. 

It must have been a defining moment when the angel told her she was with child. One minute she was simply a girl living in Nazareth. The next minute, she was the mother of the savior of the world. 

Have you ever experienced a shift in your life? Something so profound that you knew nothing would ever be the same? A change that would echo throughout the rest of your life?

Jesus is at the epicenter of this type of shift. Mary understood this. After she was told of her new calling, she sang a new song: “From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me—holy is his name. His mercy extends to those who fear him,

from generation to generation” (Luke 1:48-50).

Can you hear the song, the song of a new beginning?

Amazing grace how sweet the sound of a life changing

We also sing a new song when we meet Christ. One minute we were lost. The next, found. Like Mary, this makes us blessed, for God extended his mercy not just to her, but to all of us through giving us his son. No matter what changes in your life. No matter how your calling shifts, the greatest calling you will ever receive is the one of amazing grace.
