Day 6 by Megan Baldwin, Account Specialist of UPPERROOM Dallas Today’s Reading: John 1-10 Therefore, they said to him, "What shall we do so that we may work the works of God?" Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him who He has sent." (John 6:29) Wow! Just meditate on Jesus' statement for a moment. This was the crowd who, a day earlier, had seen Jesus multiply five loaves of bread and two fish for thousands of people. Though they probably had various motivations, they were interested in knowing how they, too, could perform such marvelous w orks. In 2023, I had some big, ostentatious, impossible requests to Heaven for miracles. It exposed fear and unbelief in me, and I really had to get vulnerable before the Lord for my faith and belief to be refined and supplied by God himself. I came face to face with, do I really believe what I'm asking for? Not all of my petitions were fulfilled. There wasn't a pretty bow at the end. I am still learning from this season and am more grateful than ever to walk through trials with the present God of my salvation. Sometimes, when we are contending for really big things, we can teeter on the edge of striving vs. sincere faith. The striving leads to works, which leads to leaning on our own understanding, which leads to disillusionment, which leads to unbelief. In an instant, the words of Jesus bring peace to the enemies' swirl. "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him who He has sent ." Jesus, the source, the bread, the water, the one sent from Heaven. He is the source, and the miracle begins in my belief in Him, who God sent! In chapters 1-10, Jesus is repeatedly revealed as the bread and living water to all unbelieving hearts. The more I eat and drink Him, the more my belief increases. Prayer: Jesus, thank you for Your daily, hourly, and minute-by-minute sourcing. Thank you for always revealing the Father. You are true bread and living water. You are the Word of my life and the light to my feet. You fill me when I'm empty. You draw near to me. Clear my ears and eyes! Keep me sensitive to Your Spirit and remove anything that hinders connection with You! I want always to be open, fully trusting You. I confess with my mouth that You are good and You. Are. My. Daily. Bread. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.
