Getting to Know God

DAY 2 OF 3

# Day 2 Jesus came to obliterate every distorted view of God man had accumulated over 4000 years of human history. Everything He did is a picture—a manifestation—of the nature of God. He is the bridge between the true nature of God and how we see and experience Him. That’s why he said in John 14:9: “If you’ve seen Me, you’ve seen the Father.” Hebrews 1:3 says, Jesus is “the exact representation of God’s nature.” Wow! From His birth, when angels heralded the good news of GREAT JOY, to His life and death, we only need to look at what He did and didn’t do to understand His true nature. Acts 10:38 says, “He went about doing good and healing ALL who were oppressed by the devil.” He did good. He healed all. That’s His nature. So expect good. And expect healing in every area of your life. John said that Jesus came “to destroy the works of the devil.” (1 John 3:8) Of course the works of the devil included the sin and sin nature conceived within Adam and Eve when they fell. But the works of the devil also include: trying to distort mankind’s view of God. From the beginning, He’s been working overtime to distort our view of God. And then in Deuteronomy 1:27, the people complained, "Because the Lord hates us, He has brought us out of the land of Egypt to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites, to destroy us." Notice their “theology”: God hates us. He wants to destroy us. Do you see how distorted that is? God is LOVE, and He delivers us from destruction (Psalm 107:20). What they believed about God shaped EVERYTHING about them. This is Satan’s most destructive work: infiltrating the earth with wrong concepts of God. And sometimes it’s well-meaning Christians that add to the distortion. So a huge part of spiritual warfare really boils down to pulling down the strongholds of our wrong views of God. Jesus came to obliterate these wrong concepts and ideas about God. * The idea that you need to change, in order for God to be good to you: Jesus obliterated THAT. (He filled Peter’s boat when he was a sinner. Luke 5:1-8) * The idea that He’s angry: Jesus obliterated that. (He was moved with compassion. Matthew 9:36) * The idea that He’s distant: Jesus obliterated that. (He is with us. Matthew 1:23) * The idea that sometimes He says yes, and sometimes he says no: Jesus obliterated that. (All His promises are yes. 2 Corinthians 1:20) * The idea that He wants you guilty-condemned when you sin or fail: JESUS OBLITERATED THAT. (There is no condemnation. Romans 8:1) * The idea that maybe He’ll heal you, maybe He won’t: Jesus OBLITERATED THAT. (And He healed them all. Matthew 12:15) * The idea that God keeps a list of your sins: JESUS OBLITERATED THAT. (He will remember them no more. Hebrews 8:12.) * The idea that God will judge you, (if you are born again): JESUS OBLITERATED THAT. (He will return, without reference to our sins. NLT: Hebrews 9:24–28) So take up your armor today—by rejecting these distorted views of God, and expect the real Jesus to fill your life today with His love, goodness, wisdom, and will. Everything’s going to be alright!
