Moses – The Making of a Leader

Day 1: Moses - A Man who sought God’s Face Thoughts on the Passage As we start looking at the person Moses, we start by looking at an overview of his life. What defines the life of Moses? To some people, Moses is defined as a great leader – and he was a great leader. To others, Moses overcame his failures and weaknesses to do great things. That is also true. However, I look at Moses as a man who moved from being a man afraid in the presence of God, to a man who spoke to God face to face. His relationship to God is what draws me to Moses. Many of us will never be asked to lead a nation out of slavery. We will never be given the responsibility to write great portions of the Word of God.  So it is hard to really see how Moses’ life can be a great example to us. We can always do the task that God asks us with humility and grace as Moses did his job. Still, there must be more that we need to apply…. The journey of Moses sees him transformed in the presence of God. That is what I want for my life. I want to see Moses as a man who shows us how to walk with God so that our lives, our face, and our talk is transformed in God’s presence. So as we walk through the life of Moses, we will see events that overwhelmed him; opposition that discouraged him; and problems that wore him out. We will also see faith that did not quit; a passion for God’s presence that overwhelmed his work; and a deep commitment to obedience to God. Sounds like someone I want to know. Application to our Life When we think of Moses, do we think of his work first or his relationship with God? Why do we go there first? When David says to “Seek the face of God”, what does that mean to us? Time to Pray Father, when I think of Moses, I always thought first about his work – because it was so amazing. At times, I did not look at him as someone that I could really learn a lot from because I would never be someone given those kinds of opportunities. Today, I see something else. Today I see someone who sought You – and found You in ways that I want to find You. I want to see Your face. So as I walk through this journey, open my eyes to see You as Moses saw You. Open my heart to learn what it takes to see Your face. In Jesus' name, Amen.

We all have excuses as to why we cannot move when God tells us to. “I’m not qualified” or “I’m still getting training in that area”. We think that our limitations are God’s limitations and we stop moving. In Plan 4 of Le...
