God's Faithfulness in IsolationSample

God's Faithfulness in Isolation

DAY 2 OF 4

Something to be Glad About This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (v. 24) It was difficult to think about rejoicing in the midst of a pandemic. Saying this verse when I wake up in the morning has been a blessing. The psalmist begins Psalm 118 with talk of distress, hostility and unpleasantness. But by verse 24 the psalmist is encouraging rejoicing and acknowledging that God made the day. In the midst of all our trials and distresses, the psalmist reminds us of the hope God gives. As I read this verse, I think of reasons I had to rejoice in the midst of Covid. For example, during the shutdown, I began to host Zoom Family Socials. Family members from near and far attended the Family Socials including family members that I had rarely seen for years and could not get together with regularly in person. We ate, talked, and played games to get to know each other better and have fun. I rejoiced at the unexpected family connections Zoom gave me. My faith is strengthened as I think about this psalm. I think about experiences in the beginning of the pandemic, and I think about my gladness now during Zoom meetings with family, especially those I would not get together with without Zoom. In every new situation, may we focus daily on reasons to rejoice and praise God. As you pray , reflect and thank God daily for all the reasons you have to rejoice and be glad.
